An organisation that builds cultural and commercial ecosystems by developing ideas and content around a distinct philosophy, distributing them through media and experiences, and connecting cities, brands, institutions and people into long-term networks and alliances.

A city you have not yet walked. A conversation you want to continue. A brand looking for its people, or a person looking for a room with a view of something older than themselves. We gather these reasons under one roof: evenings to attend, places to stay, stories to follow and partners to build with.

Museums, ministries, consulates, film commissions, foundations and hotels in Istanbul, Naples, Florence, Toronto, Vancouver and Beijing. Long alliances rather than single sponsorships; the same names return year after year.
Everything starts from a philosophy and ends in a sale, but the order matters. Ideas become content, content finds its distribution, distribution becomes an evening in a room, and in that room people and organisations meet. The network that forms is what we sell, slowly.

Festina lente. The dolphin and the anchor: speed held by patience. Aldus Manutius printed the pair under the first books that fit in a pocket. We borrow it as a method: move quickly on ideas, slowly on relationships, and never confuse the two.

Tell us about your city, your brand, your institution or your idea. We read everything and answer slowly, which is to say properly. Write to hello@festinalente.org or leave a note on the contact page.

One evening a month a rooftop in Pera opens after dark. A dervish, a ney, a table of mezze and sixty people who did not know each other at eight o'clock.
The sema is not a performance; it is a prayer that happens to be beautiful, and the semazen asks only that it be watched in silence. For twenty minutes the roof belongs to him. Then the ney stops, the lamps come up, and the table is laid where he turned.
We began in 2024 with twelve chairs. The November night is the last of the year and the coldest: dress for a rooftop in November, and come hungry. The door closes at the first note and does not reopen until the last.

Lunch is long and the courtyard is cool. Thirty seats, given by invitation and by luck, under the seven works of mercy.
Pio Monte della Misericordia has fed strangers since 1602. Once a year it lets us lay a single long table in its courtyard, below the chapel where Caravaggio's Seven Works of Mercy still hangs where it was painted for.
Nobody chooses their seat. We ask one question when you apply, and the answers decide who sits beside whom. Lunch is cooked by a Neapolitan grandmother and her two sons and goes on until the light leaves the courtyard.

A single sculpture, a single room, and a conversation about the face that cannot be looked at. The first Festina Lente commission.
The Medusa was cast in chrome over eleven months in a foundry outside Pistoia. She is shown once, in a room with one window, before she travels to Istanbul for the spring. The evening is a conversation between the sculptor, a classicist and a mirror-maker about what a face does when it refuses to be seen.
Afterwards the villa's cellar is open and the sculptor signs the first fifty of the catalogue.

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura turns fifty. One evening on the lake shore to say what fifty years of carrying a culture across an ocean has come to.
Fifty years ago the Istituto opened in two rooms above a bakery on St Clair. It now fills a house in Yorkville and a good part of the city's calendar. We are making the anniversary evening with them: a programme of readings, music and a long table by the water, with a commission that will be revealed on the night.
Reservations open in the new year. Write to us to be told first.

A few rooms in buildings we know well, for people who come to our evenings and want to wake up in the same city.

Istanbul · Pera
Two rooms above the Grande Rue, on the floor where the passage's old tenants lived. High ceilings, shutters onto the glass roof, a long table for the mornings after.

Naples · Centro Storico
Three rooms off the arcade behind the Pio Monte, with painted ceilings that have never been restored and a terrace that looks at the volcano. Breakfast under the vine.

Florence · Via il Prato
Our partner hotel keeps one suite for Festina Lente guests in the weeks of our evenings: vaulted ceilings, the lily of the city over the door, a bar downstairs that stays open for us.

Istanbul: clear, a wind off the Bosphorus, 21°. Naples: rain by evening. Florence: fog in the morning, then sun. Toronto: first frost.
FLORENCE, Saturday — The head was poured in eleven sittings in a foundry outside Pistoia, and for most of a year nobody but the sculptor and two founders saw it whole. On December 12 it is shown once, in a room with one window at the Sina Villa Medici, before travelling to Istanbul for the spring.
The commission is the first of the house's own. “We wanted a face that refuses to be looked at,” the sculptor said, standing with his back to it. “Chrome does that. You see yourself, and you look away.”
The evening is a conversation between the sculptor, a classicist and a mirror-maker; the villa's cellar is open afterwards. Eighty seats. Tickets, €25.

ISTANBUL — Under the glass roof of the old passage the tables are laid before noon and are still being cleared after midnight. The floor above, where the passage's tenants once lived, opens to guests in January. The rooms, page 2.
PERA, Sunday — As the first note of the ney crossed the roof, sixty people who had not known one another at eight o'clock stopped talking at once. The semazen did not look at them. For twenty minutes the roof was his; then the lamps came up, the table was laid where he had turned, and the talking began again and did not stop.
The floor is uneven, which matters more than you would think. “He turns to the left,” the ney player said, “and the roof leans to the right. They have come to an agreement.”
We began in 2024 with twelve chairs. The November night is the last of the year and the coldest. The door closes at the first note. Admit one, €40.
A Waiting List Is Opened
as the House Announces
Its Winter in Four Cities
ISTANBUL, Sunday — The sixty seats for the November roof were taken within the week, the house said this morning, and a list has been opened for the spring. Naples follows on the 28th with a single long table under the works of mercy; Florence in December; Toronto, on the lake, in the spring.
The programme is small on purpose. “We would rather be short of chairs than short of reasons,” a founder said. Those who hold a ticket may now keep the room above the passage for the night; the three stays are described on page 2.
Reports on the Weather Mixed
Istanbul will be cold on the roof; bring a coat. Naples in late November is kind to a courtyard lunch. Florence will have fog; the villa has a fire.
